Six Reasons Why You Should BeKnown on Facebook

The Internet is buzzing with news of BeKnown, Monster’s new app launched on June 25 that allows you to build your own professional network within Facebook.  If you’ve never heard of it before, take a minute to watch this video introduction:

Now that you have a general idea of what BeKnown is all about, here are six of the main reasons I’ll be using the Facebook app to build professional connections from here on out.

6 Key Benefits of BeKnown:

  • Auto-fill in your profile using your existing Monster, LinkedIn and/or Twitter accounts, and edit it as you wish.
  • Connect with coworkers and companies inside Facebook without revealing your personal connections, photos and posts!  Network with 750 million people (nearly 70 percent of whom are between the prime professional ages of 25 and 54) vs. LinkedIn’s 100 million.
  • Refer connections to job postings, and earn rewards for helping friends find jobs.
  • Easily endorse connections and request endorsements (like on LinkedIn)
  • Companies can claim and manage company profiles, and users can follow companies.
  • Integrated semantic job search (powered by Monster’s job board)

Strong privacy settings allow you to decide what information is shared with others and easily manage data.  There is the option to upload your resume as a PDF, and soon there will be the ability to upload a portfolio, as well.

BeKnown rewards badges to users that get posted to user profiles, such as working at the same employer for more than two years or being connected with more than 25 people.  While this sort of gaming rewards system might seem silly to some, if you understand Millenials, it makes way too much sense. Gen Y (my generation) is sometimes referred to as the “Trophy Generation”.  We were brought up to believe that mere participation deserves a reward.  BeKnown made sure to incorporate a rewards system based on both participation and merit to encourage users to keep using the app and growing their networks by making them feel accomplished.  Genius, and it works for me!

I am part of the team of community managers at BeKnown so I can answer questions and take any feedback you have back to the team.  I myself am new to the app but I’m already enjoying it, adding to my connections and seeing great value in it, so I hope you’ll give it a try.

Go ahead and BeKnown!

Organix Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Review

My hair is curly, fine and thick – a messy combination for a girl seeking a low-maintenance morning routine. A few times I’ve been so frustrated that I’ve resorted to paying for pricey and dangerous Brazilian Keratin salon treatments. The results were amazing and lasted for months, and I felt like a million bucks tossing my shining, stick-straight hair over my shoulder. So you can imagine my disappointment when I heard the cancer concerns over Brazilian Blowouts, not to mention the impossible-to-maintain cost. Now on the hunt for safer, less expensive options to tame my mane, I came across a new product by Organix that promises smooth, frizz-and-formaldehyde-free hair. Best of all, it claims to be easy to apply at home, while saving strands from damage. Read on to find out if Organix delivered!

The Organix Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy collection is an at-home hair straightening system featuring organic active ingredients to smooth all hair types. It is free of formaldehyde, sulfates and sodium, offering consumers a safe alternative to salon straightening treatments.

Organix Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Collection Includes:

  • Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy 30 Day Smoothing Treatment ($14.99), with high-potency keratin complex that reduces up to 95% of frizz and curl, depending on hair type ($14.99)
  • Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shampoo ($7.99)
  • Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Conditioner ($7.99)
  • Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Flat Iron Spray ($7.99)
  • Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Anti-Breakage Serum ($7.99)

I used the products exactly as recommended, and had mixed results. While my hair smelled delicious and felt softer than ever, it was also kinkier and more unruly than usual (NOT the goal!). I also noticed less breakage and my hair just looked healthier. Still, I was hoping for soft, shiny waves that would cut my styling time in half and give me a similar mood boost as a visit to my hair stylist.

If you want straight hair, I’d suggest sticking with professional help if you can afford it. Or just use a straightening iron and your favorite smoothing serum.

The Organix Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy Collection is available at many mass retailers e-retailer websites, including Walgreens, ULTA and Amazon.com.

Garnier HerbaShine Color Creme with Bamboo Extract Review

You may or may not know that I am an Alpha Shopper at Lucky Style Spotter, and a few weeks ago I was sent a free sample of Garnier’s new product HerbaShine in dark golden blonde (730) to review, courtesy of Lucky and Garnier.

Product Description:

Garnier HerbaShine is the first ammonia-free, fortifying haircolor with Bamboo Extract, which wraps hair in radiant, shiny color, and in just 10 minutes!  Unlike other haircolor treatments, HerbaShine improves the condition of your hair. Strengthening complex helps internally fortify the hair. Deep-acting, it penetrates to the heart of the fiber, working to strengthen, protect and restructure the hair. Neither a semi-permanent, not a demi-permanent, it is rather a soft-lift. It can lift hair up to a single level, cover gray, and provide natural results without an obvious root line.  HerbaShine offers natural coverage for hair that is up to 70% gray, and the color lasts through 28 shampoos.

Review:

Last weekend I gave HerbaShine a try.  I was a bit wary not because of the product but because I had my hair highlighted and colored just two months ago and my roots were showing, and I was worried the color would look strange.  However, the results were pretty fabulous – I can barely see the roots now, and my boyfriend even complimented me on the color!  There was no foul odor which you come to expect when applying take-home hair color kits.  In fact, the fruity aroma was rather pleasant. The color was easy to apply, as there was plenty of it and it didn’t drip because it’s a cream color.  Plus, my hair felt stronger after coloring, thanks to the avocado oil, shea butter and bamboo extract and lack of ammonia.  I haven’t given the color a full month to see how it fades, but Amber of Beauty Junkies Unite says the color has lasted her a good three weeks and possibly four.

Garnier describes HerbaShine as neither a semi-permanent nor a demi-permanent hair color, but a soft-lift. This color is not for extreme changes but it is a great choice for going one or two shades darker or blending gray in a natural-looking way.

There are 18 shades to choose from: brilliant blondes, dimensional browns, ravishing reds and tones that turn on high shine.
